Barit
Barite, a mineral composed of barium sulfate (BaSO4), derives its name from the Greek "bars" meaning "heavy." Its high specific gravity makes it unique among nonmetallic minerals and suitable for various industrial, medical, and manufacturing applications. It also serves as the primary source of barium.
Commonly found in hydrothermal ore veins, sedimentary rocks, and marine deposits, barite occurs in diverse forms, including large crystals, rosette-like aggregates, and crested plates.
